I bought a bottle to take home to the UK (amongst many other bottles from the Cape added to my suitcase LOL).Global hospitality and entertainment company Delaware North today announced the appointment of Dana Pellicano, an industry executive with more than 20 years of experience, as president of Patina Restaurant Group.Īs a wholly owned division of Delaware North, Patina Restaurant Group operates premium street-side restaurants and catering services in locations such as New York City, Los Angeles, Boston. Starters, I would recommend the trinchados (which you can have as a main) as well as the sublime steak tartare - when I had it the first time, it arrived with a "pickled egg yoke", which I was highly dubious about, but this turned out to be like everything else, utterly delicious.įor sauces for your steak, definitely try the café de Paris butter, it's gorgeous and decadent.Īnd if you are not driving or have the time to linger for a long time, a couple of glasses of the home grown pot still brandy will wash everything down extremely 's smooth as butter. Perfect levels of accompaniments in side dishes of onion rings, seasonal veg, and my favourite: the delectable creamed spinach. The quality control at Patina must be immense. Steaks are well aged, tender and grilled to perfection every time so far. The food is just great, notably the steaks, but also the other offerings (my wife had the prawns on one visit and loved them). year for work/pleasure and tried to get to Patina as much as I could (recommended by local friends), so this review covers a number of visits. I have been out to South Africa a couple of times over the last. ![]() Patina D'Aria is an exceptional example of this. What can I say, South African steakhouses are operating on literally a completely different plane of existence to the other mere mortals. The service from our waiter, Adrian, was great! He recommended the D'Aria SV Shiraz, which was perfect for our meals. To end it off, I ordered the Affogato, an italian coffee-based dessert, being a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso, but I received 3 scoops of ice cream with pieces of honeycomb and the shot of espresso was lost on it, which were all very confusing (I understand the generosity, but then don't call it an Affogato). The risotto was too rich, too much parmesan, which made the dish overall too rich, especially being served as a side. In summary, regarding the steak experience, we will still be searching for the best steak in town. I had the Fillet Champignon, which was okay and tender. Not at all what a Café de Paris butter steak is all about. My husband ordered the Sirloin Paris (Café de Paris Butter), as we had it in Switzerland as Entrecôte ("café de paris") and he was very excited to find it on the menu, but unfortunately, Patiena failed to deliver the speciality as advertised as it was only a sirloin with a little medallion of butter on it (the same my husband could have made at home). but Patiena's steak tartare was served with a egg yolk which seemed to have been fermented, defeating the purpose of causing the little 'sauce' which a raw egg yolk serves. It's usually served with inter alia Worcestershire sauce and top with a raw egg yolk. Our evening at Patiena Steak D'Aria was a bit disappointing, as their steaks are being rated as 'the best steak in town'.
